Vehicle Donation Program

Overview

The Sunland Village East Foundation (SVEF -- a 501(c)(3) charity) exists to help SVE and its surrounding communities thrive -- now and in the future. SVEF raises funds to support our mission, and to that end, has partnered with the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) to accept vehicle donations. With this partnership, SVEF is able to accept donations of a vehicle in almost any condition, such as a car, pickup, truck, bus, boat, trailer, golf cart, or four-wheeler, as long as the vehicle bears a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

How Does It Work?

The vehicle donation process is simple and straightforward, as described below:

  1. Contact a SVEF board member by calling 480-430-1321 and tell us about your desire to donate a vehicle. It is helpful to locate the unaltered title prior to this conversation.
  2. The SVEF board member will provide you a form to complete and sign that declares your intent to donate the vehicle and are releasing the title. Alternatively, a form (linked here) can be completed online, in which case a SVEF board member will contact you to obtain the title and vehicle keys.
  3. Once SVEF receives the completed form, title, and keys, we will contact AHS. Someone from AHS will then contact you for a suitable time to pick up your vehicle.
  4. AHS will sell the vehicle, and then will provide you a donation receipt for the full price they are able to sell it for. This is the amount the IRS will accept as the full market value (FMV) of your charitable donation. It typically takes 4-6 weeks to complete this process.
  5. For their involvement, AHS will retain a fair percentage of the proceeds including 20 percent for expenses and 10 percent for charitable purposes. These charges are lower than any auto dealership that operates for profit, which is why SVEF, along with three Arizona National Public Radio stations, partner with them. The SVEF will receive a greater portion of the proceeds (70 percent) to advance our mission.
  6. QR Code for AHS Vehicle DonationAs part of SVEF’s partnership with the Arizona Humane Society, we agreed to inform you that you can donate your vehicle directly to AHS instead of to SVEF. In this case, AHS will receive 100 percent of the donation proceeds.
